How to Choose Dinnerware for Your Kids

Sep 08,2022 | shopwithgreen

When selecting kids dinnerware, i recommend keeping the following elements in mind: the material you want to choose, how to clean the dishes like hand-wash or dishwasher and the lasting time of your dinnerware.

Material

Avoiding Materials for Children's Dinnerware

Why expose your children to the risk of toxins leaching from plastic plates and bowls? BPA is a recognized endocrine disruptor, and just because a plastic bowl or plate is labeled "BPA free" doesn't imply it's safe. Other bisphenols, such as BPS, have the same hazardous qualities as BPA, and even bisphenol-free polymers may include other endocrine-disrupting compounds.

Melamine dinnerware appears to be common, having a smooth hard plastic surface that is difficult to break. Melamine may seep into food if acidic or hot food is placed on a melamine plate (or if the melamine plate is microwaved), and it has been identified in the urine of persons who have eaten the melamine plate.

Suitable Material for Children's Dinnerware

Silicone: Choose food-grade silicone. Silicone, unlike plastic, is a non-reactive and non-toxic substance. Silicone is indestructible, microwave, dishwasher, and refrigerator safe. Silicone is primarily made up of oxygen and silicon (found in sand and glass).

Steel stainless: Stainless steel will not leech dangerous chemicals into your food and is indestructible. Stainless steel cannot be microwaved, it will dent inside but is otherwise unbreakable.

Bamboo: Made from plant components that are renewable. Look for melamine binders and lead-based colorants in plant-based dinnerware.

Cleaning

Washing the dishes is a time-consuming and difficult task. Because not all households are fortunate enough to have a dishwasher, many must wash dishes by hand. Also, if you have children, you should wash their dinnerware more seriously.

Disease can be spread through carelessness and a lack of rigorous cleansing. Young children are known to be more susceptible to bacterial infections and other disorders. Cleaning dishes properly is one of the most reliable strategies to guarantee household hygiene. Because your child learns cleaning skills from you, you must instill the proper culture beginning in the kitchen. Here are some suggestions for washing dishes with children.

Lasting Time

The major factors to examine for the durability of children's and infant plates are their capacity to withstand repeated washing, if they scratch easily, whether the material absorbs flavors from food or soap (such as silicone), and whether they are dishwasher safe.
